CANSEE/SCANÉÉ 2026

Cape Breton, where the conference will be held, is called Unama’ki and our main venue, the Membertou Trade & Convention Centre is in an urban Mi’kmaq community on the outskirts of Sydney, NS.
For general information about visiting the region, you may wish to explore the Cape Breton Travel Guide.
As the conference will be held shortly before Sydney hosts the Celtic Colours International Festival, we strongly encourage attendees to start thinking about travel and accommodations as early as possible. Additional details on hotel block bookings and travel advice will be shared soon.
Our Call for Sessions and Workshops will invite participants to co-design portions of the conference program. We welcome proposals for 1-hour paper sessions or panel discussions, as well as 1.5-hour interactive workshops. These participant-led formats allow for collaborative, creative, interdisciplinary engagement across the CANSEE/SCANÉÉ community. The full timeline and submission instructions will be released soon.
Our Call for Abstracts will include an opportunity to participate in our Rapid Talks format. These sessions allow presenters to share their research in a concise 5-minute pitch, followed by topical breakout discussions where participants can explore ideas in more depth.
In addition to academic programming, CANSEE/SCANÉÉ 2026 will feature artistic and community activities that celebrate the creativity and diversity of our network. We welcome contributions such as visual art, photography, film, storytelling, soundscapes, or place-based installations. Additional activities will be announced as the program develops.
We expect to offer:
- Standard, student and community member rates
- Student travel grants
- Early-bird registration options
